WHO OWNS BRITAIN AND WHAT’S THAT GOT TO DO WITH URBANISM?

A small minority of ‘landed families’ own 60% of the land in Britain. This salon will explore what that means for urbanism in the UK. Kevin Cahill’s book ‘Who Owns Britain’ will be the point of departure for the discussion, opening a conversation about implications on urban politics, economics and social movements.

CITY POWER AND THE URBAN AGE WITHOUT ENERGY: NEW MORAL AND SOCIOLOGICAL LANDSCAPES

Addicted to Oil? No, addicted to electricity. Cities are entirely dependant on electricity and it is understood that we can not, and it’s likely, will not, be able to meet or maintain this energy demand in the near future. It has also been said that we have past the point of being able to create 'alternative energies', as this technology also requires significant energy investment. This salon will explore the moral and sociological landscapes of cities with reduced power.
