2011 THIS IS NOT A GATEWAY FESTIVAL – ‘ADJOURNED’
Tuesday 07th June 2011
Deepa’s father has in the last two weeks fallen unexpectantly gravely ill. As a result we are finding a way for us to (temporarily) re-locate to Vancouver, where he lives, in order to be with him.
As a result, it has become clear to us in the last few days that we will be without the time needed or certainty of calendar to organise the 4th Annual This Is Not A Gateway Festival as planned for September this year. Having discussed it at length, we feel it would be sensible to adjourn organising the festival now, as we don’t know how long the process of nursing/caring for him will take and it is seems from his condition unlikely we would have the time needed for the festival preparation. We also thought it would be best to halt the process now, before detailed work starts on contributions.
Of course, this comes as a huge disappointment to us and with much regret - as the partnerships we have been developing and the proposals we have received are truly compelling! We apologise unreservedly and sincerely for not being able to make it happen this year, sorry! It became clear to us that if we didn’t re-prioritise our time to assist our families our work with This Is Not A Gateway would be meaningless. The 2012 Festival will go ahead as planned.
Fortunately much of the work for Critical Cities Volume 3 has already been done, so we will continue with our plan of publishing it in early October 2011.
May we apologise once again and wish you and yours well.
With Warmest Regards,
Deepa Naik & Trenton Oldfield
